Brooke Elliott Opens Up About Sweet Magnolias Ending
The actress who played Dana Sue shared a heartfelt message on Instagram after Netflix canceled the beloved show.

Brooke Elliott has spoken out about Netflix's decision to end "Sweet Magnolias" after five seasons. Us Weekly reports that the actress, who played Dana Sue on the series, posted a message to fans on Instagram on Monday, Oct. 5.
"To everyone who loved us, we love you just as much in return," she wrote, per the outlet. Elliott added that she will miss the cast and crew dearly, closing with: "Here's to the beautiful Sweet Magnolias … one last time … Pour It Out."
Netflix chose not to renew the show for a sixth season. Instead, the streaming service ordered a new drama from series creator Sheryl J. Anderson, with JoAnna Garcia Swisher attached to executive produce and potentially star.
The show's official Instagram account acknowledged the cancellation with a post reading: "All grand adventures must eventually end … Sweet Magnolias is now complete with five seasons streaming on Netflix."
A New Chapter
Anderson is moving forward with "Ladies of the House," a modern adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility" based on a novel by Lauren Edmondson. The creator said in a statement that she is thrilled to tell stories about three women navigating family, friendship, and romance.
Swisher, who played a role in bringing the project to Netflix, shared her excitement about continuing to tell "meaningful, female-driven stories." She called the streaming service her "creative home for the past seven years."
Other Cast Reactions
Jamie Lynn Spears, another star of the series, also addressed the cancellation in September. In an Instagram post, she praised the cast and crew and noted how rare it is for a show to have five consecutive seasons at No. 1 around the world.
