Angel Reese's 3:30 a.m. dinner tab, and the Finals berth

The Dream forward rented out a private room after Atlanta swept the Liberty, per Page Six, and the WNBA Finals open Oct. 17 in San Francisco.

Angel Reese bought dinner for a roster, and the restaurant stayed open while she did it. **Reported** by Page Six, which said it was told about the evening: after the Atlanta Dream swept the Liberty in the semifinals at Barclays Center on Friday night, Reese rented out the private room at Sei Less, a New York City restaurant, and took her teammates there to mark a place in the WNBA Finals.

The owners kept the doors open late for the group. Page Six was told the players were seen leaving around 3:30 a.m. ET, and that they left "a generous tip" for the staff who stayed.

What the room ordered, per Page Six:

  • King crab legs, lobster spoons and shrimp dumplings
  • Oxtail spring rolls, chicken satay and short rib

The PR Read

Renting the room is the least complicated move a franchise player has. No statement to draft, no outlet to brief, no one who can take the gesture wrong. The room is booked, the food arrives, and the whole roster eats for free.

Moves like this usually signal a leadership claim made in a currency teammates can actually spend. The check does the talking.

The timing helps. A dinner after a sweep has no next game hanging over it, which is how a room ends up running to 3:30 a.m.

Renting the room is a leadership claim that never gets misquoted.

What's on the record

Atlanta traded for Reese in April, sending the Chicago Sky 2027 and 2028 first-round draft picks. In her first season with the Dream, she reached 1,000 career rebounds faster than any player in WNBA history, set the league's single-game rebounding record with 26, and became the first player in Dream history to win the league's KIA WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award. Page Six reported all three.

Two first-round picks for two league records reads as a lopsided deal in Atlanta's favor, and that take rests on the facts two paragraphs up rather than on anything new.

The Finals

Atlanta plays the Golden State Valkyries, and the championship series is best-of-seven. Game 1 is at Chase Center in San Francisco on Oct. 17, starting at 3:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT.

The dinner will not come up again if Atlanta loses. A generous night out is a good line in a winning season and an odd one in a losing one, and the Dream get to decide which version gets told. They have a series to make it the fun one.
