J.R. Smith's Protective Order: No Contact, No Guns

A Texas judge ordered the former NBA star to stay 1,000 feet from his accuser and surrender his weapons after an alleged assault in September.

TMZ reports that a Texas judge signed a protective order on September 29 against former NBA player J.R. Smith. The order follows an alleged incident in mid-September where Smith is accused of injuring a woman.

The order bars Smith from communicating with the alleged victim. He must also stay at least 1,000 feet away from her home and workplace and cannot possess any guns or ammunition.

The accuser's identity is not public, but she is described as either a household member or someone Smith was dating. The criminal complaint alleges Smith hit, grabbed, or pushed her with his hand.

A warrant was issued, and Smith was arrested on September 28 in Royse City, Texas, after a license plate reader flagged his car. He was booked on one count of assault causing bodily injury/family violence and released after posting $5,000 bond.

Smith has not addressed the allegations directly. His attorney said he was "eager to resolve the situation," a statement that offers no details. The protective order runs through December 29.
