Kelly Clarkson Says NYC Store Snubbed Her Like 'Pretty Woman'

The singer called out Art of Play on X for making her feel she couldn't afford its merchandise.

Kelly Clarkson had a shopping experience that felt straight out of a 1990 movie, and she is not letting it slide.

The singer posted on X over the weekend that an employee at Art of Play, a Brooklyn shop that sells puzzles, games and toys, made her feel unwelcome. According to TMZ's report on her posts, Clarkson said she went out of her way to visit the store after seeing it looked cool. She planned to buy several items, but the trip soured when an employee allegedly offered to find her something “comparable” instead.

Clarkson compared the treatment to Julia Roberts’ iconic scene in “Pretty Woman,” where a saleswoman assumes Vivian cannot afford the clothes. On X, she sarcastically invited people to visit if they want the same experience.

“Big mistake. Big. Huge.”

She told the employee they just lost out on a massive sale. Clarkson, who moved to New York City in 2023, is not exactly struggling financially. The Grammy winner did not name the employee or specify what she planned to buy.

Art of Play has not responded to the allegations as of press time. It is a classic case of a customer being judged by their wallet size, and Clarkson was not about to let it go quietly.
