Michael Douglas reveals affair with 'Basic Instinct' co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn

In his new memoir, the 82-year-old actor says he was ready to leave his first wife for Tripplehorn during production.

Michael Douglas is clearing up decades-old rumors about who he was involved with on the set of "Basic Instinct." In his new memoir "One Helluva Ride," Page Six reports, he writes that he had an affair with Jeanne Tripplehorn, who played his therapist in the 1992 film, not with Sharon Stone, who played his love interest on screen.

Douglas, who was married to his first wife Diandra Luker at the time, says in the book that he fell "very hard" for Tripplehorn despite their nearly 20-year age difference. He was ready to leave his wife for her, he writes, but decided against it because he felt jumping into another serious relationship would be the "worst thing" for him.

The relationship lasted through production, Douglas writes, and then the two went their separate ways. He says he will always remember Tripplehorn as an amazing actress and a "terrific woman."

Douglas eventually divorced Luker and has been married to Catherine Zeta-Jones since 2000.

Tripplehorn, now 63, has been married to actor Leland Orser since 2000. A spokesperson for Tripplehorn did not respond to Page Six's request for comment.
