Tamar Braxton Mourns Von Scales in Emotional Tribute

Okay, so. Tamar Braxton is grieving her brother-in-law Von Scales, and she went to Instagram to say goodbye.

Us Weekly reports that Tamar, 49, posted a tribute on Sunday, October 4, calling Scales by her private nickname: "Top 5." She wrote that he was one of her top five favorite people in the world and that she will miss his presence, his heart, his strength, and how he protected the people he loved.

Tamar praised Scales as a "man's man" with one of "the biggest hearts I've ever known." She specifically thanked him for the way he loved her sister Trina. "I have never seen anyone love Trina the way you did," Tamar wrote. "You didn't just say it, you showed it. You covered her. You protected her."

The tribute included a throwback clip of Scales proposing to Trina, who enthusiastically said "yes."

A spokesperson for the Braxton family confirmed to TMZ on October 1 that Scales had died at age 58. His cause of death has not been revealed. Trina and Scales had been married since 2019. This is another devastating loss for the family: Trina's ex-husband Gabriel Solis died of cancer one year earlier, and their sister Traci Braxton died in March 2022 from esophageal cancer.

Tamar addressed that grief directly, writing that it feels unfair for Trina to have to grieve again when the family is still learning how to live without Traci. "Some losses you don't 'get over.' You just learn how to carry them," she wrote. "But Trina, you'll never carry it alone. We are here."

She also imagined Scales reuniting with Traci in the afterlife, asking him to give Traci a big hug and to watch over Trina.

Tamar ended her post: "Rest well, Von. You fought. You loved. You protected. You left your mark on us. There's millions of people in this world, but you my boy will be in my personal Top 5 FOREVER."
