Kate Manne: 'I believe Jane Doe' on Call Her Daddy

The Cornell philosopher used a "Call Her Daddy" special to say where the blame in a sexual assault case belongs.

"Rape is always 100% the fault of the rapist, 0% on the victim," Kate Manne said on Sunday's special episode of "Call Her Daddy," joining host Alex Cooper.

Manne is a feminist philosopher who teaches at Cornell University, and she made her own position plain. "For the record, I believe Jane Doe," she said on the episode.

**Reported by TMZ:** a civil suit filed by a former Cornell student accuses seven fraternity members of a drugging and gang rape in October 2024. TMZ reported that the allegations brought national outrage and fed the "I Am Jane Doe" movement. A civil filing is a claim, not a finding.

Manne also questioned where the public's worry goes in a case like this. A lot of it lands on the men who are accused and what the case costs them, she said, instead of on the woman who came forward.

"So many people worried about him missing out on his bright future. What about her bright future?" she asked.

On the episode, Manne said many students on campus feel betrayed. The talk moved through fraternity culture, consent, and what the episode called an alleged "bro code" that pushes men to shield each other instead of speaking up.

Cooper also raised the Snapchat messages that surfaced in the case, asking whether they point to a bigger problem than one complaint. TMZ reported the episode ranged well past Cornell.

Our read: the futures question is the part of this episode that will travel, because attention is the one thing in the case everyone can see and nobody has to prove. Manne's argument is that it has been aimed the wrong way.
