Jeff Seeman Suspended After Swearing at Trey McBride

The NFL line judge was caught on camera cursing at the Cardinals tight end, and the league has now handed down a two-game suspension.

NFL line judge Jeff Seeman has been suspended for two games after cameras caught him swearing at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a game against the New York Giants on Sunday, October 4, Us Weekly reports.

The incident happened in the fourth quarter when Seeman declined to call pass interference on Giants cornerback Dru Phillips, who had made contact with McBride as he pursued a pass. CBS cameras captured Seeman appearing to say "f*** you" to McBride multiple times.

McBride, 26, spotted the cameras aimed at him and Seeman. He pointed and laughed. He finished the game with seven receptions for 31 yards, both season lows after four games, per Us Weekly.

CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, who was standing nearby during the exchange, wrote on X that she never heard a curse from McBride. "What's wild is that it all started with Trey McBride saying 'please' when pleading his case for a PI flag," she wrote. "The harshest he got was, 'You're ruining the game.'"

The NFL began reviewing the incident Monday, October 5, Us Weekly reported. That afternoon, Ian Rapoport announced on X that Seeman had been suspended for two games.

NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter weighed in Sunday night, calling the behavior "unacceptable" in a post on X. "Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed," he wrote. "We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard."

The NFL Referees Association did not immediately respond to ESPN's request for comment, Us Weekly notes.

Seeman has been an NFL official since 2002. He is the son of Jerry Seeman, a former NFL referee who later served as the league's senior director of officiating.

In a related moment from Sunday, New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was penalized 15 yards after exchanging words with an official during a game against the Buffalo Bills. Vrabel, 51, downplayed the interaction to reporters, saying he likely shouldn't have sworn but had apologized.
